Underwater Video and Photo Contest

Hey everyone! We at Northwest Divers are holding an underwater video and photo contest. This means that we need you to choose a category and get those cameras rolling. We have FOUR categories to choose from with rules and guidelines to follow in each. The deadline for this contest is December 31, 2019 so you all have plenty of time to take your best shots.

HERE ARE THE CATEGORIES AND RULES.

In the photography section we have two categories which are DSLR and Non-DSLR.

 

DSLR

Allowed: Brightness, contrest, color, sharpness

Not Allowed: Cropping, Cloning, and other digital manipulation

 

Non-DSLR (compact)

Allowed: Taken by point-and-shoot, non-interchangeable lens

Not Allowed: Cropping, cloning and other digital manipulation

 

*we reserve the right to audit your original files.

 

Then in the Video section we have another two categories which include General and Education.

 

General

  • Any film ten minutes or less in duration.

  • 75% of footage must be shot underwater.

 

Eduction

  • Any film, ten minutes or less in duration.

  • 50% of footage must be shot underwater.

  • The main focus of the film is to educate.

Rules and Tips

  • All video and photo entries must be taken within the 2019 year. -Make sure that you have the rights to music, visual footage, personal copyrights, or any other legal rights.

  • Multiply videographers and editors are allowed, but only the submitter will be awarded the prize.

  • Videos must be submitted as an NTSC or PAL video DVD that is playable in a standard DVD player. Write category, name, phone number, and email on DVDs.

  • If your video is a finalist we will ask for the highest quality for possible public viewing.

  • DVDs will not be returned after the competition.

  • Photo entries must be in jpeg format and should be sized to be between 2,000 and 6,000 pixels in the longest dimension.

  • Please limit image file size to 5,000KB (5MB).

  • Photos must be submitted on CD. Write category, name, phone number, and email on CDs.

  • Please include your original unedited photo to your entry.

  • CDs will not be returned after the competition.

  • If you need some guidance, come talk to us at Northwest Divers about a class or to be pointed in the right direction.

  • Entries can be dropped off at Northwest Divers.

  • Again, the deadline for all photos and videos is December 31, 2019.

Rules and guidelines for disqualification. The following will get your entry disqualified.

  • Diver visibly damaging the environment.

  • Animals showing signs of stress.

  • Animals moved to an unnatural environment or risky location.

  • Marine life being touched.

  • Not following category guidelines.

  • Not following rules for submissions.

In a side note we are also having our fourth annual pumpkin carving and costume contest on October, 26th held in Lake Six. More info to come. This contest is about having fun, keeping good buoyancy, and being aware of your surroundings as you carve a pumpkin underwater. BYOP (Bring Your Own Pumpkin).
